Organic New Caledonian sandalwood essential oil has a fresh, woody, warm, and balsamic scent; it has a balancing effect and is highly regenerative for the skin. Its extraordinary and intense fragrance promotes inspiration and sparks the imagination. This precious oil is distilled from the aromatic heartwood, which only begins to release its scent after 30 years. Sandalwood adds an aphrodisiac note to sensual massage oil blends. Often, just a hint of the essential oil is needed to achieve a typical sandalwood note. Using the oil sparingly makes sense for cost reasons. We source the oil from an organic plantation in New Caledonia, an archipelago near Australia and New Zealand.
The use of New Caledonian sandalwood oil has only been known since the turn of the millennium. Due to the scarcity of Indian sandalwood trees and threats to their conservation, New Caledonian sandalwood oil has increasingly been used as a substitute for the Indian oil. The sandalwood variety Santalum austrocaledonicum Vieillar thrives on the islands of Ouvea, Maré, Lifou, and Île des Pins. Logging is limited, and there are sandalwood plantations where three new trees are planted for every tree that is felled.
Because of its comparable chemical composition, organic New Caledonian sandalwood can be used as a more affordable alternative to Indian sandalwood. The scent is slightly fresher and less warm than that of organic Indian sandalwood, but it has the characteristic aroma of balsamic sandalwood.
